Three Days
of Rain, by Tony Award-winning
playwright Richard Greenberg, was nominated for the Pulitzer
Prize when it premiered in 1997. The play begins one year after
Walker Janeway disappeared on the day of his father Ned’s
funeral. Walker has returned home to meet his sister, Nan, for
the reading of Ned’s will. They are joined by their childhood
friend, Pip, who is the son of Ned’s late business partner.
When Walker finds Ned’s diary, the young people are forced to
confront their assumptions and see their parents in ways they
never imagined.
ACT ONE: 1995-
A year after disappearing on the day of his father, Ned’s
funeral, Walker Janeway returns to New York City to meet his
sister, Nan for the reading of Ned’s will. They are joined by
their childhood friend, Pip, the son of Ned’s late business
partner. Walker finds a journal kept by Ned in 1960 which he
thinks may reveal buried family secrets.
ACT TWO: 1960- We meet Ned and his partner
Theo at the same age as their children are in Act One. We also
meet Lina, a charming, yet unusual woman, and begin to
understand the mysteries that will plague Walker, Nan and Pip 35
years in the future.
